Romania's national power system has connected 2,514 megawatts of new generation and storage capacity since the start of 2026, according to Transelectrica, the transmission-system operator.
The total includes 1,331 megawatts of solar power, 663 megawatts of battery storage, 496 megawatts of wind, 20 megawatts of hydrocarbon generation and 5 megawatts of biogas. The threshold was crossed with the connection of a 76.76-megawatt battery project at Parau, which has storage capacity of 150.288 megawatt-hours.
Transelectrica said some of the projects are licensed while others remain in testing or technical-compliance stages. It expects roughly another gigawatt of solar and wind capacity and about a gigawatt of storage to connect by year-end. For data center investors, the broader trend is constructive, but the decisive question remains whether firm power is available at the specific grid node where a campus is planned.
